Mátyás Mervay: A Patriot Left Behind. Rescuing Jews in Wartime Shanghai

About the event

A conversation in English with the author about his most recent book, A cserben hagyott hazafi. Zsidómentés a háborús Sanghajban (A Patriot Left Behind. Rescuing Jews in Wartime Shanghai, published in 2023). The book presents the story of Pál Komor, a Budapest-born businessman organizing aid for Shanghai’s nearly twenty-thousand Jewish refugees in the late 1930s. Later, Komor is also deprived of his Hungarian citizenship because of newly introduced antisemitic legislation.
