Our book cataloguing process continues this spring with the help of a professional librarian straight from Budapest’s Hungarian University of Fine Arts. Anikó is soon arriving in New York, and she needs some help!   

What will you do? You will have to record data—including author, title, place of publication, etc.—related to the Library’s book collection of fiction, history, art, and children’s books.   

What tools will you use? Anikó will teach you using the cataloguing web application LibraryThing.   

What will you need to bring? High spirits and your laptop. If you prefer just helping to organize the books, bring yourself.   

Location? Our beloved Library at 215 East 82nd St, New York, NY, 10028.   

Timing? Starting May 18, twice a week 3-4 hours on your preferred days—between 10 AM and 4 PM. Ideally, we need people who can commit repeatedly, but you can register for specific time slots.  

Why to do it? You can gain hands-on experience in library information practices while you can get to know Hungarian literature better, one book at a time! There will be some good coffee, refreshments, snacks, and you will get a signed copy of our favorite historian, András Török’s ‘Budapest könyv’. 

We are also having a book fair during June where we are selling more than 1000 books and we will need some helping hands there as well. For more information please contact us and look out for our upcoming emails!
